Abstract The study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of a literature- based group program in enhancing 3rd year EFL learners’ English language proficiency through a literature- based program. The experimental design of the study depended on the voluntary basis of choosing the group of the study which included an experimental group and a control one. Each group included”27 participants (9 males and 18 females). I he researcher has developed and made use of the following tools; a literature- based program, a pre- post test and a tendency& satisfaction questionnaire. ’I he study hypothesized that there \\ould be a significant difference Between the mean scores of the control and the experimental groups on the post test of the learners’ language proficiency favoring the experimental group. ’1 he study also hypothesized that the experimental group would surpass the control group on the four language skills as well as the learners’ linguistic competence post test. I he study used ”t” test and Blake’s Modified Gain Ratio to answer the questions of the study. The study reached the following results: The program has a significant effect on enhancing 3rd year EFL learners’ language .proficiency, in the sense that the program has proved to be effective in enhancing the students’ reading, writing, listening, speaking skills as well as the students’ linguistic competence and some thinking skills. the researcher recommends that language proficiency should be aimed at through any main stream study. She also recommends that literature study courses should result in more language proficiency. The study suggests more studies should be conduced to follow the validity of Content-Based In unction Approach in foreign language teaching settings. |
