Abstract

The present study is concerned with the study of the Paleocene-lower Eocene successions in the area of west central Sinai, Egypt. The uppermost part of the Cretaceous is also considered for the KIP boundary. A total of 202 rock samples were collected from two stratigraphic sections at Gebel Nukhul and Wadi Feiran where they examined for calcareous nannofossils as well as ostracodes content. Calcareous nannofossils have been utilized in biostratigraphic-synthesis, age dating, paleoclimatic interpretations. Ostracodes have been also biostratigraphically evaluated and moreover used for their significant paleogeographic and paleoenvionmental implications. For systematic paleontology, only ostracodes have been considered where additions and remarks have been contributed. Lithostratigraphically, the upper Maastrichtian-lower Eocene successions along the studied profile are differentiated into five lithostratigraphic units of wide distribution. These rock units are arranged stratigraphically from base to top into the Sudr Formation (middle to late Maastrichtian), Dakhla Formation (late Maastrichtian to early late Paleocene), Tarawan Formation (late Paleocene), Esna Formation (late Paleocene to early Eocene), and Thebes Formation (early• Eocene).
