Abstract The main purpose of quantitative trait loci analysis in agricultural animals is to identify genes affecting important traits like, milk, wool and meat production. A genome scan which use anonymous molecular markers has been approved to be an efficient method to detect QTL. However, one drawback of this method is poor mapping resolution, which makes the process from genome scan to identify the actual gene causing the QTL effect difficult and time consuming. Therefore, the candidate gene approach might be a useful method for detecting genes in the actual QTL region. Candidate genes for the traits of interest can also be selected solely on the biological or physiological function. |
