Abstract The present study followed a case control cross sectional study design. The aim of this work was to study the health profile of children under five years old in the foster care centers in comparison to those in nursery schools. The study was conducted during the period from October 2004 to the end of September 2005. It comprised 303 infants and children aged less than five years, they were grouped as the following: Group 1 : (the foster care children): they were 96 infants and children, who were collected from the foster care centers in Assiut city. These centers provide physical, social, psychological and medical care for orphan children under five years as Lillian Trasher orphanage center, Dar-ElShimaa, Dar El Safa and El-Walideya health center. Group 2: (the nursery schools children): Included 207 children of matchable age and sex. They were attendant in the following nursery schools: Dar-El Shabat - El Moslemat, El Ebrahimya, El Sheikh Bakheet and El Eman nursery. For data collection the following items were obtained: -Biosocial data related to the children. - Medical history of children as immunization, medical follow up, previous diseases,surgical operations,accidents and previous hospitalization. |
