ABSTRACT
- THE STUDY PROBLEM:
In the light of the review of literature, it is clear that the rural woman’s participation in development projects faces several difficulties and obstacles in spite of all the efforts to overcome them. The role played by the regional universities for the sake of community is weak, especially in the field of the rural woman programs. They are also separated from the
community.
The research problem was stated in the following question:
- What is the role of regional universities in meeting the
rural woman’s needs in the light of the objectives of
sustainable development?
It was subdivided into the following four sub-questions:
A)What is the reality of programs presented by the regional universities for the community in order to achieve the sustainable development?
B)What is the reality of rural woman in Qalubiya Governorate? What are her needs in the light of the sustainable development?
C)What are the reasons beyond examining the sustainable development in the Egyptian regional universities?
D)What is the suggested vision for developing the role of regional universities in meeting the rural woman’s needs in the light of the objectives of sustainable development?
- STUDY OBJECTIVES:
1.Determining the important roles played by the regional universities in their community to achieve the sustainable development.
2.Examining the reality of rural woman, her obstacles and her needs in the light of the sustainable development.
3.Applying the concept of ”education for sustainable development” in the Egyptian universities.

4. Preparing a suggested vision for developing the role of regional universities in meeting the rural woman’s needs in the light of the objectives of sustainable development
- STUDY METHODOLOGY:
The present study followed the case study method in order to examine and analyze the reality of rural woman in Qalubiya Governorate and the services submitted to her by Benha University.
- STUDY TOOLS:
- An interview with rural woman in Qalubiya Governorate and
the dean-vices for community and environment affaires.
- A questionnaire for the dean-vices for community and
environment affaires in Benha University.
- STUDY DELIMITS:
A random sample of rural women in Qalubiya Governorate, especially in the villages: Esneet, Moshtohor, Sendiyoun. The number of the sample was 900 woman.
- STUDY TERMINOLOGY:
The following terms have been defined:
Regional Universities role — rural woman’s needs —sustainable development.
- STUDY CHAPTERS:
vChapter 1: The general framework of the study: Problem, Objectives, Method, Tools, Delimits, Terminology, and Procedues.
vChapter 2: The sustainable development in modern communities: Concept of sustainable development, its origin, its philosophy, and its objectives.
• Chapter 3: The reality and needs of rural woman in the light of sustainable development.
vChapter 4: The regional universities and sustainable development
vChapter 5: The field study and Interpretation of study results.

- STUDY RESULTS:
The present study reached 16 results. The following are
some of them:
1-Sustainable development needs some essential and
necessary requirements to be real.
2-The rural woman plays an important role in the success of
sustainable development. Therefore, it is urgent to
improve her conditions and meet her needs.
3-University plays an important role in meeting the rural
woman’s needs and achieving the sustainable
development for her.
4-The increasing ratio of pollution in rural community
threatens the society development.
5-Several diseases spread as a result of the pollution.
6-Mothers’ and old women’s environmental awareness is
low.
7-Rural woman’s practice of her political rights is low.
8-University is considered a place for knowledge and learning only and not a place for offering services for
community.
9-Woman’s needs are in various fields such as religion,
health, agriculture, and education.
10-Lack of university propaganda for its services.
