The Problem :
The planning of Curriculum in our schools is undertaken in a centralized form in our system of education.
In fact this method does not offer the effective opport-unities for students to get in contact with their local environment and its problems.
In my M.A thesis ( 1976) I discovered the lack of teacher’s knowledge as regards their environment. Moreover many teachers do not Care about the importance of dealing with the environmental problems.
The limits of the research:
This study treats the students attitudes towards an env-ironmental Problem, I;e, the problem of pollution.
The main question which the research worker tries to answer is :
To what extent do students benefit from the study of an environmental pollution unit on the development of their attitudes
towards conservation .
The Tools of the research are:
-Test ( multiple choice).
-Environmental attitudes scales towards pollution, based on krathwohl and his colleagues ” Taxonomy of objectives”.

The experimental and descriptive methods are used. The null principal hypothesis of the research :
Reject at the level of , 05 of significance that students achieve a score of 75 w in a knowledge test on environmental pollution, also make a change in the students attitudes towards protecting the environment from pollution. plan of research :
The first chapter : -
Introduction, the problem, the limits of the research, terminology and concepts used.
The Second Chapter :
International Definitions of environmental education and its goals.
The operational definition of environmental education in the field of pollution.
The goals of the unit are ( Cognitive, affective and psychomotor) .
The Third Chapter :
International trends towards environmental education. Conculsion There is a great stress on environmental educa-

trend demands the Co- Operation between the institutes and universities. It also requires training on environmental education programmes.
The Fourth chapter :
The bases of environmental education :
1)The historical basis.
2)The Social basis.
3)The natural basis.
4)The Philosophical basis •
5)The Psychological basis.
Conculsion :
There is interaction between the bases and each
-program of environmental education .
It must lay stress on these bases.
The fifth chapter :
Construction of a unit in environmental pollution based on integrated knowledge.
The Content of the unit includes;
1) Man and environment. z) Man and Eco-system.
3)Definition of pollution.
4)Resources of pollution. ( water, air , soil , sound, sight, food).
5)Environmental ethics definition, environmental rights and duties, environmental values. This is an applied thought because ethical thought without application is a very bad predica-
ment .
The aims of the unit are based on:
1)Foundations of environmental education.
2)Goals of environmental education .
3)Demands of growth for adults. Preparation of teaching and testing.
(a) This includes the preparation of a study unit dealing with environmental pollution. Before the unit and its teacher’s handbook is constructed, the unit and tests were read by Juries who are specialized in the fields of environmental education deucational psychology and ecology.
(3) After revisions suggested by juries, the unit and tests were combined in in the pilot study in which approximately 20 students dfrom the second form secondary school students, on the bases of the results of pilot study, changes were made in
the tests.
The sixth chapter:
- To test the validity of hypothesis, the researcher executed the following experimental design:
(1) Choice of a random sample of 170 2 rid form secondary school students ( males and females ) divided into two groups equivalent randomly.
(2) Pre-testing of the experimental group a multiple
choice test to measure the achivement of knowledge of environmental facts and concepts, tests of environmental attitude scale were also
(3) Pre- testing of the control group, the same tests as of tYe experimental group.
(4) Post-testing of the experimental group, using the multiple choice test, tests of environmental attitude scale.
All learning and tests sessions were executed by a sample of teachers under the supervision of the investigator.
