Abstract The process of compressing cotton stalks into cylindrical blocks (wafers) is studied. Wafers for this investigation are made in a cylinder are piston-type compression chamber mounted on mechanically operated tensile-compression testing machine. The maximum load is restricted to 10 tons. The load-deflection curves are obtained. Wafers’ diameters range from 14 cm. to 8 cm. Moisture content ranges from 33 to 10 per cent (wet basis). Multiple regression equations are developed to correlate the dependent variables (final density, and compressing energy) with the independent variables. |
