Abstract This study was an attempt to throw some light on the role of some tumor markers in the pathogenesis of benign and malignant epithelial lesions of the larynx. The expression of p53 protein as well as the distribution of basement members components; type IV collagen (cIV) and laminin were studied immunohistochemically in 96 larygeal epithelial specimens. These specimens were endoscopic obtained by punch at the EN.T. Department, Assiut University Hospital. The specimens comprised 23 laryndeal polyps, 2 squamous cell papillomas, 12 low-grade dysplasias, 5 high grade dysplasias/carcinoma in situ and 54 invasive squamous cell carcinomas of the larynx. Formation-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue sections were immunostained by monoclonal antibodies against p53, cIV and laminin using the Avidin-Biotin peroxidase complex method. The results were correlated with the clinicopathological parameters. |
