Abstract This investigation was conducted at Sakha Agricultural Research station to estimate coinbining ability effects and heterosis for yield and yield components, physiological characters and chemical characten in ear leaf and Kernels. The experiment was cultivated in the growing season of 1995 and 1996 involving eight maize inbreds and 28 single crosses. The obtained main results may be summarized in the following points: A: Yield and yield component characters : 1 - The results revealed significant differences between the two years in grain yield (AsdlFed.), number of ears1100 plants, ear diameter and 100 kernels size. But ear length, number of rowslear, number of kernelslrow and weight of 100-kernels did not differ significantly from one year to another. These results indicated that the variations among genotypes and their partitioning into inbreds, heterosis and crosses differed significantly for the all characters and consistent from one year to another. 2 - The results indicated that the general combining ability (G.C.A.) and specific combining ability (S.C.A.) variances were significant for all studicd charactcss in the two years and co~nbined cxceyt for weight of 100 kernels and 100 kernels size which recorded to be not significant in 1996 only for G.C.A. variance. These results indicated that additive and non-additive gene actions were important in magnitude and involved in the inheritance of such characters. On the other hand. |
