Abstract

This investigation was carried out to study the influence of growth regulators on cotton characteristics and estiination of genetic variability, heritability and expected genetic gain from selection inter-cotton varieties. Estiination of both general and specific combining ability in a diallel set of cotton varieties under different growth regulators effects and their implication in future breeding program was also another aim for this investigation. This study was conducted at Saldla Agricultural Experiment Station in 1993, 1994 and 1995 to study the influence of growth regulators i.e. Gibberellic acid (GA3) and Cycocel (CCC) foliar applications in addition to control experiment on the genetic variability and the type of gene action among the Egyptian cotton varieties. This investigation was divided into two main topics. Firstly: The effect of growth regulators on genetic variability of different cotton characteristics: The study included ten divergent Egyptian cotton varieties (G. barbadense); Giza 45, Giza 70, Giza 75, Giza 76, Giza 77, Giza 81, Giza 84, Giza 85, Giza 86 and Giza 87. The foliar growth regulators were applied in three separate experiments as follow: Exp. 1: Ii~cluding the application of gibbrillic acid (GA3) applied in concentration of 100 p.p.111 for two times. Exp. 2: Including the application of cycocel (CCC) applied in concentration of 100 cm3 for two times. Exp. 3: Including control cotton plants (without any application).
