Abstract
This work is a trial to evaluate the prostate related compliants by
use of transrectal ultrasonography (IRUS), measurement cfprostatic
specific antigen (PSA) in the serum in addition to digital roctaJ
cxaminatiOfl (DRE;) of all patients Our study was conducted 00 120 male patients aged 40 to 78 years
and presented by symptoms of -prostatism· due to bladder outlet
obstruction, these symptoms were quantified using the American
UrolugicalASsociati(HI (AVA) symptDm score. Blood Samples were
taken from all patients before any manipulation of the prostate for
measurement of prostatic specific antigen (PSA).
Following digital rectal. examination, patients were SCCUUlcd in the
left 1311.eIaJ decubitus position using a Brne! & Kjaer 7 MHz multipll1l1Br

were .tneasUIW, bladder neck also clearly seen by TRUS in addition to .
the echopatrem of the gland. Biopsy were carried out from any
suspicious areas with an 18 gauge tru-cut needle fired by the band-held
biopty gun and sent for histopathological examioenon.
