المستخلص
This work is dealing with the architectural basis for university buildings in Egypt in an attemot to provide a comprehensive study for the stage of general planning of the university buildings.
The first chapter includes a historical survey for the development of educational buildings at different ares, and the factors affected their development.
The second chapter has dealt with a study of the factors that affect the planning and designing of university buildings, especially; in Egypt, namely the site choice, environmental factors and the humanistic and physical ones.
The third chapter includes examples of university buildings, showing the principles of designing the main three types of academic units, namely; lecture theaters, classes and the laboratories, finally; a study on roads network, interbuilding spaces and pedestrain paths.
The fourth chapter provides an application for the previously mentioned studies through an analytical study for Assiut University including the general site, the present buildings, and a field study through a questionnaire for the staff members and students about the fulfillment of the present building for their requiements.
Finally, the thesis has include some conclusions and recommendations hoped to be of great benefit for the reader.
