Abstract This in-vitro study aimed to compare the efficiency of rotary NiTi instruments and NiTi hand instruments when used in rotary motion in shaping root canal of molar teeth by the use of the Digora digital imaging tool, it also aimed to evaluate the effect of number of instrument usage on the cutting efficiency and surface topography of the instruments and this was done by gravimetric analysis and surface scanning of the instruments by stereomicroscope and S.E.M. Sixty mesiobucal roots from sixty extracted upper molars were used in this study. The mesiobuccal roots were mounted in separate plastic block with their long axis parallel to the long axis of the block. The samples were divided into three groups each of twenty roots according to the degree of curvature which was determined according to Schneider: Group I: (0- 15?), Group II: (15- 25?) and Group III: (25- 40?) Then the samples of each group were subdivided according to the instrument used in preparing the root canal into two subgroups: Subgroup A: canals prepared with ProTaper rotary system. Subgroup B: canals prepared with K-NiTi Flex file mounted in a special contra angle handpiece. |
