Abstract - 87 - SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION 100 patients of different age groups were selected for the present study from Benha University Hospitals and Benha fever Hospital. These patients were complaining of splenomegaly and about half of them have undiagnosed prolonged fever. The patient·ls sera together with 30 control sera were examined for antibodies aganist leishmaniasis by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The sera of 8 patients were serologically positive (8 % ) with atttre ranging from 1 11024• Two of these positive cases were traveller from Iraq and sUffereing from huge splenomegaly and undiagnosed prolonged fever. The other 6 PGsitive cases were sUffering from splenomegaly without fever or travelling history from endemic area. The study therefore proved that visceral leishmaniasis is present in Egypt. More search for the disease must be enhanced. Also, we should do our best to protect the trqvellers from infection by health education about the mode of transmission and vector of infection. |
