Abstract
Summary
Two hundred cases were collected at random fan patients attendin University Hospital ( 1983 ). Every patient was SLIbrilILLUCA lu
clinical examination. A case sheet was designed to cover the aspects of personal history, complaint, present history and past history especially of antiparasitic treatment. The following investigations were done to every patient
1-Urine examination by sedimentation and centrifugation.
2-Stool examination by direct smear method, floatation method and Kato Technique.
3-Peri- anal swab for patients complaining of parasitis ani.
Egg counting was done to assess intensity of infection. In urine Walker and Walker technique ( 1968 ) was done in positive cases of bilharziasis, ancylostomiasis and ascariasis.
Results:
1-general rate of infection by various parasite was 71. 5 %.
2-The frequency distribution of parasitic infection among individuals attending the in- and out patient clinic of Banha University Hospital was as follows: Schlstoseme manson115 %;S. haematoblutn12. 5 °A,Ascaris lumbricoides 12. 5 °A), Ancvlostoma duodenal 3. 5 °A), Hvmenolpis nana 6. 5 %,Enterobius vermlcularls9. 5 °/0,Trichuris trichura 1. 5 %, Mania sp. 0. 5, Trichostroogylus ntubriformis 2 %, Entamueba histolytica 35. 5 °A) and Giardia lamblia9. 5 lu
3-There was a definitive relation between parasitic infections and both symptoms of gastrointestinal troubles and signs of undernutrition. On the other hand not all patients with gastrointestinal symptoms were infected. All patients complaining of pruritis ani were infected by Enterobius vermicularis
4-There was no a defenitive relation between parasitic infections and urinary symptom, other symptom, signs of hepatosplenomegaly, and other signs of cardiovascular, neurological signs etc...
Intensity of infection. As regards infection by Schistosoma haematobium and
inansellimo heavy infection cases were reported, but all cases were either mild a moderate infections. As regards ascariasis and ancylostomiasis, all ty ues of infection intensities were recorded.
6- l he 1 - 20 years old age group showed the highest infection rate, while the rate declined markedly in the other two age groups.
1- incidence of infection was generaly equal in both sexes.
8-Infection by single parasite dominated while double, triple and quadriple infection were not common.
9-There was no definite relation between infection and previous history 01 having antiparasitic treatment.
