Abstract T his study was carried out on 40 patients presenting with intractable ascites, admitted at Ain Shams University Hospitals. The aim of this work is to study the value of flowcytometry in the diagnosis of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and malignant ascites compared with conventional bacteriological and cytopathological examination of ascitic fluid samples. The studied patients were divided into 2 groups: group A included 20 patients with SBP (proved by neutrophilic count more than 250 /mm3 or leucocytic count more than 500 /mm3 of ascitic fluid) while group B included 20 patients with malignant ascites (proved by +Ve cytopathological examination of ascitic fluid for malignant cells). |
