Abstract Infections with persistent Viruses such as herpesviruses h ave become of significant clinical importance. Novel herpesviruses have been described recently. These include human herpesviruses 6,7 and 8 (HHV -6, -7, -8). In the present work we have studie.d the prevalence of these novel viruses in 266 subjects of different age groups recruited at the Medical Research Institute and the Well Baby Clinic of Alexandria University Hospital. Sera samples were separated from these individuals and examined for. the presence of IgG antibodies to HHV -6 using Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and for IgG antibodies to HHV -7 and HHV -8 using the indirect immunofluorescence assay test (IFA). Seroprevalence of these herpesviruses was calculated after stratifying the subjects by age. |
