Abstract

The present thesis aims to define and evaluate the hydrogeological conditions and characteristics of the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer in East El Oweinat area as based on the geological setting, investigations of the recent drilling logs, hydrogeological measurements, hydrochemical properties of the groundwater and evaluation of groundwater quality for different purposes. Also a simulating of the Nubian sandstone Aquifer in a suitable model (FEFLOW) provides good management and conversation of its groundwater
The area under investigation is located in the southern part of the western desert of Egypt and bounded by latitudes 22o 00 and 23o 00 N and longitudes 28o 00 and 29o 00 E, with a total area of about 12085 km2. it lies within the arid zone of Egypt, being warm in winter and rather hot in summer with wide diurnal variations and almost no precipitation

Geomorphologically , the surface of East El Oweinat area belong to the Precambrian , upper Jurassic – lower cretaceous and Quaternary . while in subsurface , the sedimentary succession in the area of study is revealed by the data obtained from the recently drilled deep wells reaching the basement rocks, it variesin thickness from one locality to another and reaches a maximum value of about 718 m thick in the western portion of the area .the Nubian Sandstone succession in the area of study is built up of six Hills Formation .it attains a maximum thickness of about 706 m in the western side of the area Lithologically , it is made up of standstone beds, ranging from very fine to maedium grained,sometimes of coarse grained with a minor intercalation of silt and clay. This siccession is capped by the Quateranry deposits which cover wide stretches of the study area in the form of gravely sheets and eolian deposites , and overlaying directly the Precambrian basement rocks.
