Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution of dietary factors in addition to other risk factors in the development of chronic heart diseases among Egyptians. This study was carried out on 100 patients ( 31 males & 7 females atherosclerosis ), ( 20 males & 37 females valvular ) and ( 5 females congenital). In National Heart Institute, Imbaba, Cairo as follows : • Data was collecting about socio-economic status included age, sex, education, occupation, family size, income and work pressure. • Food intake was collecting by using 24 hours dietary recall for 3 different days. • Nutrient values were derived from standard reference table and presented as percentage of (WHO, 2000 ). • Also data about food habits including number of daily meals, omitted meals, method of cooking ...etc. Data about health, illness duration, family history of illness. Physical activities, medicines ...etc. were collected. • The anthropometric measurements included weight, height, mid-upper arm circumference, triceps, skinfold, thickness, mid-upper arm muscle circumference and body mass index. • Blood samples were collected from patients for estimation of total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL.c, LDL.c, blood glucose, uric acid and creatinine. • All obtained data were statistically analyzed and presented as mean + SD, also the significant differences were calculated by-t-test, and correlation coefficients were calculated by Pearson. All obtained results were tabulated. |
