Abstract The ultimate objective of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of a proposed ESP program in developed the English language skills that are necessary for kindergarten department students at faculties of education. For this purpose, two needs analysis questionnaires, one for university specialists and the other for kindergarten department students, were constructed, validated, administrated, and statistically treated and analyzed. The main aim of these questionnaires was to determine the most important English language skills necessary for the target population, the topic that should be included in the proposed program, and suggestion for the development of English language curriculum. As a consequence, the general objective of the program was formulated and the course was designed. Sixty-one major kindergarten Department students at Tanta faculty of education were randomly selected to constitute the subjects of the experimental study. Results of the study revealed a significant difference between the mean score of students on the pre-post test. Moreover, the obtained t-values were statistically significant. The differences were in favor of post-test mean scores, due to teaching of the proposed program. On the basis of the study findings, it can concluded that the proposed ESP program was effective in developing the English language skills that kindergarten department students need to learn and master. |
