Abstract

The choice of anaesthesia for Cesarean section depends on many factors: reason for the operation, degree of urgency, the desire of the patient and also the experience of the anaestheologist.
Epidural analgesia is used in caesarean section. Its advantages include an awake mother, minimal newborn depression, and avoidance of the risks of general anesthesia. Its major disadvantages are the time needed to establish surgical analgesia and skill of the technique.
The aim of this work was the study of some respiratory, haemodynamic, and assessment of analgesic effects produced by epidural Bupivacaine-fentanyl mixture on both mother and foetus as compared with Ropivacaine-fentanyl mixture in elective cesarean section.
This work was carried out in El-Shatby Maternity University Hospital on 30 multiparous parturients of ASAI or II clinical states scheduled to be free from any cardiovascular, respiratory or metabolic disorders as judged by clinical examination and routine laboratory investigations.
