Abstract

Gastric cancer is second only to lung cancer as the most common cause of cancer deaths. In Egypt, gastric carcinoma constitutes 1 .64% of all cancer cases according to National Cancer Institute (NCI) data.
Gastric lymphoma is an uncommon malignancy, accounting for less than 2% of primary gastric cancers.
EBV is a member of the herpes virus family that infects more than 90% of the world’s adult population implicated in the development of a wide range of cancers. H. Pylori a spiral or curved unease-producing Gram negative organism found in the human stomach, and considered as the first gastric Infectious carcinogen.
This study aimed to detect Epstein-Barr virus as well as H.pylori in gastric carcinoma and lymphoma and its correlation with other available clinic-pathological data. This study was carried out on 60 cases including 32 cases of gastric carcinoma, 20 cases of gastric lymphoma and 8 cases of chronic gastritis as a control group.
