Abstract The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of chlorhexidine varnish on salivary mutans streptococci levels in caries active pediatric patients. The study sample consisted of 42 children with an age ranging between 6-9 years. all children had the following criteria. –Three or more unrestored carious teeth, as to be caries active. – moderate to high salivary ms levels according to initial bacteriological screening. This was performed using chair side dent cult strip mutans test.- no antibiotic therapy within the last month.- free from any systemic disease.- demonstrated relatively co-operative behavior. The children were randomly divided into two equal groups each group consisted of twenty one patients. Group 1: the experimental group to which the chlorhexidine varnish was applied. Group 2: the control group to which the placebo varnish was applied |
