Abstract

There is an association between preterm premature rupture of membranes and abruption and adds additional insight into the role of intrauterine infection and oligohydramnios in the pathogenesis of abruption preterm premature rupture of membranes and intrauterine infection are strong risk factors for abruption; oligohydramnios in the presence of preterm premature rupture of membranes increases the risk of placental abruption and women with preterm premature rupture of membranes managed expectantly are at increased risk of developing abruption if the latency between the time of membrane rupture and delivery exceeds 24 hours.
