Abstract
Between October 2003 and June 2005, forty children under 12 years old had mitral valve disease were scheduled for mitral valve surgery at National Heart Institute Imbaba. Children with acquired mitral valve disease either pure mitral regurge or double mitral valve lesions with predominate mitral regurge or isolated mitral stenois were subjected to open mitral valve surgery. Before surgery, we select the patients to mitral valve surgery according to pre-operative clinical evaluation and the echocardiography study of the valve, but the last decision were taken during the operation by analysis of the valve and subvalvular apparatus by the direct vision where there were no significant change from the pre-operative analysis.
