Abstract

Egypt contains the famous monuments and arcaeological sites in the world, which must be considered one of its principle assets.Alexandria, one of the important cities of Egypt, having great history full of events, which left their monuments as witness. Among these archaeological sites, the studied site ”Tapestries Magna”. It is expected that the values and condition which give it universal significance, and which make it an outstanding example, will be maintained on a permanent basis

The entire site, with its monuments of outstanding cultural and historical importance, is in real danger. Over the last decade the process of deterioration of the monuments has dramatically increased. The destruction of the monuments is inducted by a combination of natural and human factors. Weathering and erosion caused by environmental agenda have caused by environmental agents have caused a lot of serve damage to the monuments. The impact of weathering and eroding factors on the monuments have been exacerbated by natural faults in rock; infiltration of water and growth of plants in rock fissures. In addition to natural damage cultural and socio-economic factors represent a principle threat to the integrity of the site. Uncontrolled urban development and infrastructure installation can cause a lot of harm to the site, in addition, pollution by litter, graffiti, uncontrolled commercial activities and many others

It is quite obvious that these monuments need an urgent care. If the deterioration processes are allowed to continue, the irreplaceable heritage will disappear and tourism, which centers on these monuments, will diminish. The conservation of these monuments will promote investment and tourism in the area and will establish a base to development at the southern side of Alexandria –Matrouh road

Preservation planning is a process that organizes preservation activities in a logical sequence. This study follows this context through preservation research plan on a historical site ”Tapestries Magna” in Alexandria. The monument preservation systematic study approach includes three stages:’ anamnesis-diagnosis-therapeutically stages’ Anamnesis, acquire documentations of all records, written and pictorial, accumulated during the examination and treatment of cultural property. Diagnosis, the second step in monument systematic approach, is fundamental for the improvement of scientific knowledge concerning stone deterioration. Deterioration assessment of the archeological monuments at site was accomplished through visual detection, documentation and drawings
