Abstract

Our work was done to assess the incidence of cancer larynx among other endolaryngeal swellings.
The studied group of patients included 300 adult cases (246 males and 54 females ) . All have been admitted because of endolaryngeal swellings, there are a wide range of age groups extending from the second to the eighth decade of life. A full history was taken from the patients, then they were subjected to a thorough E.N.T. examination followed by direct laryngoscopy under general anaethesia either for biopsy taken or complete excision of the tumor, then histopathological study was done.
The clinical examination of these 300 cases had shown that the highest incidence of endolaryngeal swellings was in the group affecting the glottic region (63.3%), followed by the group affecting the supraglottic region (25.7%), then transglottic region (6.7%) and lastly the group affecting the subglottic region (4%).
The most common symptoms of our group were hoarseness of voice in (96.3%), stridor in (26.3%), haemoptesis in (21.3%), sense of lump in throat in (14.3%), pain and otalgia in (10%) and neck mass in (8.7%).
