Abstract Rhinoscleroma is a chronic specific granulomatous intlammatory condition that has an affinity to the mucosa of the upper respiratory tract , caused by klebsiella rhinoscleromatis Antorscleroma is a term to describe scleroma of the maxillary antrum. The previous studies considered the antroscieroma are extremely rare although the maxillary sinus is continuous with the nasal cavity . The physical , biological and microbiological environment in the antrum , differing from those in the nose . may explain the rarity of antroscleroma , this rarity may also be explained by the fact that scleroma starts anteriorly in the floor and medial wall of the nose which are far from the hiatus sernilunaris containing the ostium of the sinus The recent studies recorded high incidence of antroscieroma and attributed this high incidence to the selection of the late and extensive rhinoscleromatous patients and the sinoscopies which enable them to early detection of the cases. In our study , thirty patients diagnosed clinically and histo pathologically to be rhinoscleroma were examined radiologically and biopsies from the maxillary antra were taken through the sinoscope. |
