Abstract This peptide was iginally isolated in porcine brain. It was later found in cardiac tissue d in plasma. It may be cosecreted with atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) from ial granules, but the primary source of BNP seems to be by synthesis m cardiac ventricular tissue. This work aimed at studying plasma level of BNP in patients with te myocardial infarction as one of the methods for evaluation of left tricular function of these patients and to study the prognostic value of P for adverse outcome after acute myocardial infarction. We also tried to correlate between these findings and ocardiographic findings of left ventricular functions to test the iity of plasma BNP level as a marker for left ventricular dysfunction. The present study comprised 40 patients having acute myocardial •ction. All patients were subjected to clinical examination. Plan chest yECG tracing and echocardiography. Blood sample was withdrawn valuation of plasma BNP level All patients were followed up for 2 months for occurrence of •se clinical events such as heart failure, angina, reinfarction thmia or even death. This work revealed that plasma BNP levels were elevated in 32its having MI. the level was higher among cardiac mortality within is follow up and was also high in patient with bad outcome during up duration. |
