Abstract

This study included 20 patients suffering from PS disease. They were randomly divided into 2 groups. The first group (10 patients) was subjected to PS excision with simple closure while patients of the second group were subjected to rhomboid flap technique.
The results of this study showed that there were no significant differences among the two groups with respect to age, sex distribution, or frequency of recurrent disease. Rhomboid excision and Limberg flap procedure has been reported to have lower infection and recurrence rates, shorter hospital stay, and better aesthetic results. With this technique, the natal cleft can be flattened, and tissue can be approximated without tension. The rhomboid flap group had better clinical results than the primary closure group. The hospital stay for the rhomboid was shorter than that of the primary closure group, and the difference between the groups was significant. Time off work was insignificantly lower for the rhomboid flap compared with simple closure group. During the mean follow- up period of 6 months recurrence developed in the primary closure group in one patient whereas no recurrence developed in the rhomboid group. This difference did not reach statistical significance because of the relatively small number of patients and short follow-up time.
