Abstract Abnormalities of liver function in patients with chronic renal failure under chronic hemodialysis therapy are common. Drugs, iron overload and infective agents including hepatitis virus have been inplicated in the acute episodes of hepatic dysfunction, however, in many instances of chronic hepatic dysfunction, the etiology remains undetenni ned. The aim of this work was to study the hepatic dysfunction in urenhic patients under chronic hemodialysis therapy. The study was carried out on 120 patients (88 males and 32 females) with end stage renal failure on regular chronic hemodialysis in the Urology and Nephrology Center, Mansoura University. Their age ranged from 11 years to 66 years with a mean age of 31.03 + 9.5 years. The duration of dialysis therapy varied from 10 to 120 months with mean duration of 27.6 + 17.2 months, patients received blood in a frequency that varied from one to 54 times, with a mean of 9.6 + 8.9 transfusions for patients. All studied patients were subjected to the following 1. History taking and clinical examination with special stress on the etiologic causes of renal failure, manifestation of hepatitis, history of hepatotoxic drug intake, duration of dialysis and parasitic infection (Schistosonia and malaria). 2. Screening of patients sera for hepatitis B virus markers and jcytomegalovirus antibody. |
