Abstract The present study aims at finding out to what extend the age of mother affects infant mortality in Shebin ElKom city. A sample size including all infant death certificates as well as infant birth certificates in 1988 in Shebin ElKom city to recognize the infant mortality rate. Another sample size includes all mothers of the dead infants in 1988 to recognize their age. Random sample of 1000 mothers was taken and their age were determined by direct contact. Their age distributions were extrapolated to include all mothers who have born live babies in Shebin ElKom city in 1988. Finally we can conclude that : -The present work showed that the infant mortality rate in Shebin ElKom (1988) was 45.7/1000 live births. -Male to female infant deaths were (1.2 :1 ).-Neonatal deaths were significantly higher in males than in females (67:43), but postneonatal deaths were higher in females than in males (43:46), Not significant.
