Abstract The development of safe, effective and reversible contraceptive method for men is an important goal to increase the choices available for couples to regulate their family size. Some drugs have been tried to inhibit spermatogenesis inducing azoospermia temporarily. Two of these drugs are testosterone enanthate and cyproterone acetate. This work was conducted for studying the histological and histochemical changes in rat testis following administration of either TE or CPA alone or a combined regimen of both of them, The reversibility of these changes after arrest of treatment had also been studied to evaluate the ability of their extended usage as reversible male contraceptives. MATERIALS & METHODS: The animals used were 80 adult male albino rats, weighing from 180-200 gm. They were divided into 4 main groups: Group I (Control): Composed of 38 rats, either kept without treatment or injected by sesame oil in different doses. They served as control for treated groups. Group II (TE-treated rats): Composed of 14 rats were given TE TM weekly in a dose of 3 mgI rat! week (0.5 ml! rat! week of oily solution of 0.25 ml primoteston depot ampoule in 10 ml sesame oil). |
