Abstract Identification and quantitation of normal and abnormal Hb variants are clinically important in diagnosis of hemoglobinopathies. Also, separation of serum protein fractions may help in diagnosis of certain diseases such as paraproteinemia. The conventional methods of separation are time - consuming and skill -dependent. Therefore, this study was designed to evaluate CE as a new technique for separation of serum protein fractions and Hb variants and to compare its performance with other methods of separation. For separation of serum protein fractions, serum samples from patients with chronic liver disease (20 cases), nephrotic syndrome (10 cases) and paraproteinemia (2 cases) and from healthy controls (20 subjects) in addition to quality control serum were analyzed by ordinary and capillary electrophoresis.,For separation of Hb variants, blood samples from patients with tiemoglobinopathies in addition to AFSA2 hemocontroi were analyzed by)rdinary electrophoresis and CIEF. Microcoiumn chromatography was done for quantitation of HbA2 and alkali denaturation was performed to estimate HbF. |
