Abstract

Although Candifast method more costly than the G.T assay, the enzymatic assays proved highly accurate arid more objective than the G.T assay and could easily be performed by staff member not highly trained in mycology and laking skills in microscopy ( Heelan, et al 1996).<Most of our strains show marked sensitivity to amphotericin B, nystatin, fluocytosine. marked resistance was noted to azole antifungal agents Fluconazole, Meconazole,Econazole and Ketoconazo Ic respectively. Our results was in agreement with the results of Sobel, et al 1996 who demonstrated the results of susceptibility testing of over 500 vaginal yeast isolates .They observed high level of resistance to fluconazole as well as cross - resistance to ketoconazole and itraconazole.Recent reports of clinical resistance and failure associated with triazole therapy have been of considerable concern (Goff,et al 1995)In vitro amphotericin B resistance or the clinical failure of amphotcricin B in the treatment of candidiasis has only rarely been reported (Chelsom Ct al., 1994). This results was in agreement with our results.
