Abstract Sonography has become one of the most common techniques for non-invasive evaluation of the body. Duplex Doppler ultrasound is a simple and rapid method of measuring blood flow.In this study, we measured the resistive index (RI) in 83 patients with renal disease (obstructive nephropathy and reflux nephropathy) and compared it with the resistive indices of 50 normal children. Also, we measured the diastolic/systolic ratio and the creatinine clearance in the patient group. The split renal function was assessed by sintigraphic studies using 99’Tc-DMSA scan. There was no significant difference in RI between the control group and the patient group. In the same patient with unilateral disease, there was no significant difference in RI between the normal kidney and the diseased kidney. Also, analysis of the relation between D/S ratio and renal function did not reveal any significant correlation between D/S ratio and either total or split renal function. This means that Duplex Doppler ultrasound is a good tool in study of renal blood flow in other renal diseases but not in case of renal scarring which can be detected better by renal 99mTCDMSA scan. |
