Abstract
Haemorrhoids is a very common problem encountered in both sexes in different ages.
This work attempted to re—evaluate the efficiency of cryosurgery in haemorrhoid treatment and to study the sequence of events after its application The experimental part of the work consisted of application of cryosurgery to the skin of rats, each rat was subjected to cryosurgery in 3 points for , 1, and minutes; and fourth point was left as a control area. The rats were divided into 7 groups and serial biopsies were taken throughout the necrotizing and healing periods which reached one month postoperatively until complete healing occured.
Microscopic tissue changes occurred in an orderly progression of : oedema and erythema, infiltration of inflammatory cells, tissue necrosis, tissue slough and repair by granulation and re-epithelialization.
The lesions produced were sharply delineated from the surrounding tissues, and little inflammatory reaction appeared around the lesions. The healed lesions were characterized by the increased thickness of their epidermal layer and the complete lack of all adnexal structures.
