Abstract
This work includes fifty patient’s addmitted to Shebin EL—Koum Teaching hospital from October 1986 to August 1988 complaining of symptoms and signs on the biliary tree.All cases were clinically examined in details also all laboratory investigation were done for all of them. Also plain X-ray and oral cholecystogram were done for some of them.Ultrasonography was performed for abdomen arid biliary tree. for all cases.Laparotomy was done for all of them and cholecystectomy or suitable operations were performed. Operative cholangiography was done by injecting urografin during operation for all of them, to show if there is any congenital anomaly or stones lodged in CBD. Manual explorations was also done to assess ultrasonography and operative cholangiography and comparing them.Ultrasonography has an important role in diagnosis of stone in gall-bladder but to a less extent in CBD, also it shows a good accuracy in diagnosis of size of CBD. Its role in cases of malignant tumours of the biliary tree was low.
