Abstract

ti the 16th of September 1977, in Zurich, Andreas Gruentzig id with success the first percutaneous transluminal coronary ‘ (PTCA) in human. In the early days, the technique was used proximal, concentric, non or little calcific lesions. Nowadays, e improvement of materials and increased operators experience t and complex lesions are dilated. The indication for PTCA ischemia either chronic stable or unstable angina that (respond adequately to medical treatment. Another indication is e of myocardial ischemia on exercise stress testing, nuclear :ioaphic stress testing. Other indications are history of arrest, sustained Ventricular Tachycardia and/or Ventricular mechanisms by which Coronary Balloon Angioplasty may vessel luminal dimensions include plaque compression, plaque plaque dissection, plaque stretching and stretching of plaque segment. The most important complication related to the j of PTCA is the abrupt closure of the dilated vessel. The factor limiting the long term benefit of PTCA is restenosis. Its from 20 to 50 % of the dilated vessels.
