Abstract
To evaluate the relation between preoperative clinical , echocordiographic and hemodynamic indices , and the outcome after mitral valve replacement and to assess the effect of MVR on the cardiac dynamics and functions in patients with chronic rheumatic mitral valve disease and significant regurgitation , 35 out of 51 patients with mitral valve prostheses were followed for an average period of 15 months. Patients with prosthetic valve malfunction , persistent paradoxical septal motion and non cardiac deaths were excluded.
Preoperatively our patients were subjected to clinical , electrocardiographic , radiologic , echocardiographic and hemodynamic evaluation . The same except the cardiac catheterization were repeated after surgery.
according to postoperative clinical functional class and echocardiographic ot3 , patients were divided into 23 improved patients C group A) and 12 patients who deteriorated or died after surgery C group 8). Group 8 was subdivided into 7 non- improved patients C group 81) and 5 deaths C group 82).
