Abstract

Cellulosic textiles contain several impurities such as fats, waxes, pectins, natural coloring matters. The grey fabrics are subjected invariably to preparatory processes for an efficient removal of these impurities in order to guarantee proper dyeing or printing and finishing. The conventional preparatory processes involve conversion of grey fabrics to fully bleached fabrics by three distinct steps:
1. desizing to remove sizing materials,
2. Scouring to remove impurities such as fats, waxes, pectins etc,
3. Bleaching to destroy naturally occurring color bodies. The bleaching step provides a uniform white appearance for consumer acceptable whites as well as a uniform color base for dyeing, printing, and finishing. Thus, a highly successful bleaching step is necessary for commercially acceptable consumer fabrics such as white and light colored textile goods.
Aim of the Work
The major objective of the present work is concerned with the development of new technologies for bleaching of some cellulose based fabrics (like cotton, flax and jute), reducing energy consumption during the preparatory.
