Abstract

t is well known that poly(ethylene terephthalate) PET is highly crystalline and has several drawbacks. These drawbacks are its hydrophobic properties, difficult dyeing to dark shades and static charge formation on its surface. This necessitates the modification of PET fibres by introducing of various functional groups in the fibre matrix.. to impart hydrophilicity. Consequently, the main targets of this work are as follows:
1. Modify and improve the hygroscopic. electrical and dyeing properties of PET fabric, by radiation grafting with hydrophilic vinyl monomers (acrylic acid, N-vinyl pyrrolidone and their comonomer mixture). 2. Study of the kinetics of grafting and dyeing process to understand their mechanism and cover the academic and applied side.
3. Pollution preventation (eco-friendly) and saving energy via carrier- free dyeing at moderate temperature. 4. Dyeing PET fibres with disperse, basic and direct dyes. Carrier-free dyeing at considerable moderate temperatures, and short time.
