Abstract

This thesis is mainly concerned with specifying the properties and use of smart fabrics in order to achieve the functional suit according to the end use
It was found that fibre type and fabric surface have a significant effect on functional properties.
It was found that abrasion resistance of Micro Modal, polyamide > Trevira’s> CoolMax’s> cotton’s, viscose’s
It was found that, water repellency of Trevira > polyamide’s, CoolMax’s cotton’s, viscose’s> Micro Modal’s
It was found that, pilling rate of polyamide, Trevira, cotton > viscose’s> Micro Modal’s > CoolMax’s
It was found that the face side of single jersey II fabrics has better functional properties than its back.
There is a correlation ship between fabric weight and functional properties, as the fabric weight increases abrasion resistance, water absorption, water repellency and pilling rate increases whereas elongation, air permeability and water absorbency decreases.
By blending two fibres in a single fabric, it will combine their properties and this fabric can be used on one side only or both sides which is determined according to the fabric surface properties in order to fulfill the purpose of end use.
