Abstract

The study of this thesis focused on developing a method for dyeing the polyester / cotton blended fabric in one bath, using disperse and reactive dyes instead of the regular one which utilizes two-baths taking in consideration the fastness properties of the dyed fabrics.
To achieve the target from this study, the following procedures were carried out and studied:
1-Effect of different temperature degrees (from 80 – 150°C) were studied on the K/S relative to the studied disperse dyes. The dyeing process was carried out according to the recommendations of the supplier for each considering the temperature variation.
2-Effect of different pH values on the K/S of the same studied disperse dyes.
3-Effect of different concentrations of sodium chloride (the electrolyte that used in the reactive dyeing) on the K/S of the same studied disperse dyes. 4-Three different curves were applied on the studied reactive dyes to study the effect of the high temperature which is necessary for dyeing the polyester portion successfully.
5-A suggested method for dyeing such blend is applied on different recipes then the fastness properties were tested and compared with that resulted from the regular dyeing method, three probabilities to add the reactive dyes to the curve were also studied to detect the more suitable way to their addition.
6-The reverse dyeing method were applied also, as a one-bath method for dyeing such blend, where the cotton portion is dyed first then the polyester in the same bath then the fastness properties were tested and compared with that resulted from the regular dyeing method.
The suggested method was applied on different blending ratios.
A dyed sample with the suggested curve was repeated for different four times to test the reproducibility of that method.
According to the results obtained, it was found that:
1-The results of the colorfastness tests of the suggested method were the same as that resulted from the dyed samples with the regular method.
2-The suggested method show a good reproducibility. When apply different blending ratios on the same recipe and also by repeating the same recipe.
3-The suggested method as a one-bath method decrease consumption of energies used in dyeing industry, in the convintional method the time needed to complete the polyester portion dyeing is about 225 minutes (about four hours), while in the case of the new curve method that portion needs about 155 minutes (about two and half hour) which means that this new curve save about 40% of the time that the convintional method usually spend.
