Abstract
The present work is represented in two parts, first part contain simply scientific review collected from scientific references which related to the thesis topic, and contain three chapters. First chapter deals with cellulose and cellulose modifications through esterification and etherification reactions, crosslinking and grafting. Oxidized cellulose is represented in a some what detailed description. Second chapter deals with Chitin/ Chitosan chemistry with regard to deacetylation processes. Degree of deacetylation of chitosan, oxidation using H2O2, treatment with NaNO2, (Nitrous acid) and Biodegradation were the main topics of this chapter. Improving of chitosan properties using grafting, crosslinking reactions and derivatives were discussed in details. Chitosan applications of antibacterial, antifungal, in easy care finishing and waste water treatment were also included.
