The Arabic poetry has its own internal music. Arabic poems follow special patterns called Buhur. The rhythmic Arabic poem in the original vertical poetry depends on two main units
1.Rhythm unit (Prosody)
Verses should contain the same rhythm. All of the verses follow the same cadenced system. All of the verses form will be like the form of the first verse. So that, all the verses rhythm will be the same as the first verse rhythm including the number of the syllables and foots.
2.Rhyme unit
The last character in all of the verses should be the same. For example, if the last character in the first verse is (ن) all of the remaining verses should end by (ن).
Arabic language specialists did not agree until now about the number of the poetry ”Buhur” (بحور). Some of them said that there are twelve Bahr and others said that there are seventeen Bahr and others said in-between numbers. The Arabic poetry for Al Khalil Ibn Ahmed is fifteen Bahr and for Al Akhfash Al Awsat (Said Ibn Misada) are sixteen Bahr. Al Akhfash added one Bahr to Al Khalil’s Buhur and called it Al Motadarak (المتدارك) as he was making right what Al Khalil forget. Arabic poets arranged their poetries according to these sixteen Buhur.
The process of identifying the Bahr of an Arabic poem is not trivial even for the students of linguistic studies. Some researchers tried to find rules to identify the Bahr in mathematical manner.
changes may be converting a vowel into a consonant, eliding characters, There are some anomalies infect the Arabic poetry foots. These or adding characters. Some of these changes obligate in all the poetry verses and others do not obligate. Prosodists called these changes (Zehafat Ellal).
The Rhyme science is the science by which the status of diacritic, Skoon, obligatory, permissibility, Faseeh (فصيح), and Qabeh (قبيح) of the last of the verses is known. Depending on this definition the rhyme may be part of a word, a word, word and part of another, two words, or two words and part of a third word. There are six rhyme characters if they appear in the first of the poem they must appear in all of its verses. The rhyme may include only some of these characters even one character. One of these characters is Al Rawyy which is the last Sahih character at the end of the verse the poem depends on this character and it ascribe to this character
Some of the researchers tried to formulate mathematical models for the Arabic poem according to its Bahr but all of these trials concerned with the simple Arabic poetry, by simple Arabic poetry we mean the that is not infected by any anomalies.
The aim of this thesis is to computerize the process of classifying an Arabic poem according to its Bahr and to implement a system that can be used to Determine the ”Bahr” (بحر) and the ”Rawyy” (روي) of the poem and to Detect any anomalies such as the ”Zehafat” (زحافات) and the ”Ellal”(علل) in the poetry and determine their kind.
