Abstract

The production of Jute-containing fabrics is still limited because of inherent drawbacks. So this study aim to upgrade and add new values for the jute fabrics. This was realized through the study of the impact of jute grade, blending with other fibres, pretreatments as well as polishing and chemical treatments on some physical properties and on post-dyeing with reactive and natural dyes, or on the transfer printability of the fabrics with disperse dyes.
• Pretreatments and bio-polishing are very effective processes that enhance the wettability and dye uptake, regardless of the used substrate in case of dyeing fabrics with reactives and naturals.
• The changes in dye-uptake, dye interaction and fixation along with fastness ratings depend on the nature of the dye as well as kind of mordant in case of using natural dyes, in addition to the fabric composition, blending ratio and nature of the fibres.
• K/S values of the printed substrates are determined by the type of jute substrate and the enhancement is governed by the sequence modifications.
• Coating with polyethylene film enhances the K/S of the printed substrates, and is better for the higher thickness than the low thickness i.e. 0.18mm.> 0.08mm.
• The upgraded-coloured Jute fabrics can be used for the designing of modern handbags taking in consideration both the economical and the ecological concerns.
