المستخلص

Wool is an animal fibre of outstanding appearance and performance properties. It contains natural cross-linking bonds responsible for the stability of its fabric. These bonds can be grouped as covalent and non covalent bonds. The covalent bonds are mainly disulphide which can link different wool chains or different parts of the same chain via the amino acid cystine. The second types of bonds, the non covalent bonds, are mainly hydrogen, ionic and hydrophobic bonds. These different bonds in wool are susceptible to breaking and rearrangement if the wool fabric is immersed in water and/or due to walking or sitting resulting in wrinkling.
In the present study we have introduced additional stable bond in wool in order to increase its resistance to wrinkling. This has been achieved by treatment of wool fabrics with two different bifunctional reactant resins in presence of different catalysts using the padding technique. The padded samples (80% pick up) were dried and cured under different curing conditions (temperatures&time). The used crosslinking agents (reactant resins) are:-
1- N, Ń-Dimethylol dihydroxy ethylene urea (DMDHEU) with low formaldehyde release:
2- N, Ń-Dimethyl dihydroxy ethylene urea ”1, 3-dimethyl 4, 5-dihydroxy 2-imidazolidinone” (DHDMI) which has no formaldehyde in its structure.
