Abstract

The main work in hs thesis is to study and investigate the problems of (1) Electromagnetic wave excitation in a cylindrical wave guide by relativistic electron beam and beam instability, and (2) electromagnetic wave propagation and the effect of an relativistic electron beam on the field stability and minimizing the energy losses in plasma-filled rectangular . wave guide. In Chapter 2, we investigate the stability of a relativistic electron beam passing along the axis of a cylindtlcal waveguide with non-ideal conducting walls. The interaction of the relativistic electron beam with the electromagnetic modes of the waveguide will be stuhed in details. This type of interaction is known to result in amplification of waves or the generation of natural oscillations. Beam stability and excitation of electromagnetic waves are stuQed for the case of a thinelectron beam for axi-symmetric and non-axisymmetric waves. The effect of external static magnetic field on the system is also considered. In Chapter 3, we investigate the problem of electromagnetic wave propagation in plasma-filled rectangular waveguide, and field stability by relativistic electron beam. Analytical calculations are performed to hd the plasma dielectric tensor, wlGch leads to apply. the boundary conditions at the plasma-conductor interface. Besides.
