Abstract

The present work deals with the evaluation of Abu Roash Formation i n Abu Sennan a r e a , Western Desert, Egypt. This formation which c o n s i s t s of seven members; A, B, C , D, E, F, and G a r e studied through four wells named GPZZ-3, GPZ-1, GPY-1 and GPX-1. The most important conclusions revealed from such srudy can be summarized as follows: The q u a l i t a t i v e w e l l log i n t e r p r e t a t i o n is studied through a c o r r e l a t i o n c h a r t to show the homogenity and s i m i l a r i t y of the log responses i n the d i f f e r e n t rock u n i t s both l a t e r a l l y and v e r t i c a l l y . , The i d e a l i z e d type log is c o n s t r u c t e d u s i n g the r e s i s t i v i t y and gamma ray logs. The physical p r o p e r t i e s of Abu Roash Members a r e studied where such type log helps i n d i s t i n g u i s h i n g t h e s e members i n t h e a r e a of study. The log responses of Abu Roash A, C, E and G Members i n d i c a t e the presence of varying l i t h o l o g i e s represnted by sandstone, s h a l e and limestone. I n Abu Roash B, D and F Members the log responses i l l u s t r a t e the abundance of one l i t h o l o g y type. The determination of s h a l e content (Vsh) was acheived using various methods; e i t h e r s i n g l e curve clay i n d i c a t o r s o r double curve clay i n d i c a t o r s . The minimum values of Vsh a r e the most r e p r e s e n t a t i v e values, t h e r e f o r e , some graphs hove been c o n s t r u c t e d , using the obtained values of Vsh versus depth, to compare the resulto of the d i f f e r e n t methods, gamma ray, neutron, sonic-density and neutrondensity t o s e l e c t the most optimum Vsh. The volume of shale obtained from neutron method g i v e s u s u a l l y reasonable values while the other methods give unreasonable anes.
